Side-by-Side Comparison

DeepScript vs AssemblyAI — same API quality, EU data residency

AssemblyAI is a top-tier transcription API — DeepScript offers comparable quality from Germany, without Schrems II exposure and with a DACH dialect model.

AssemblyAI ships one of the best transcription APIs on the market: Universal-2 model, polished SDKs, speaker diarization, pay-as-you-go from ~$0.14/h. For US and English use-cases it's a strong pick. For DACH companies it gets complicated: data flows through AWS US-East, EU DPAs are Enterprise-only, and Swiss German or Austrian aren't specially trained. DeepScript delivers comparable REST API quality but hosts entirely in Germany and offers a DACH-tuned Premium model.

Pick DeepScript when ...

  • DACH companies with strict GDPR compliance requirements.
  • Audio with Swiss German / Austrian / Low German.
  • You're building AI agents (Claude/ChatGPT/Cursor) on your transcription archive and need MCP.
  • You need a legally-sound DPA without an Enterprise call.

Pick AssemblyAI when ...

  • US-centric workflows where data residency doesn't matter.
  • You rely on AssemblyAI-specific models like Slam-1 or Lemur.
  • You need late-stage features like sentiment, auto-chapters or topic detection in one call.

Frequently asked questions

Is DeepScript's accuracy really comparable to AssemblyAI?

On clean English audio both engines deliver >95% word accuracy. In Premium tier with DACH dialect model DeepScript beats AssemblyAI Universal-2 on Swiss German, Austrian and Low German — where AssemblyAI lands at 85-90%, DeepScript Premium stays above 95%.

How hard is the migration from AssemblyAI to DeepScript?

Swap an endpoint and an API key. DeepScript's REST API is deliberately close to AssemblyAI's pattern: POST /v1/transcriptions with file or URL, poll for status, fetch result as JSON with words + timestamps. Migration of a mid-sized backend: 1-2 hours of code changes.

Does DeepScript offer LeMUR-style AI features (summary, Q&A, action items)?

We deliberately chose not to build our own AI-layer API. Instead we expose an MCP server, so Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor can work with your transcripts directly — with your own AI account and your own prompt. More powerful, and avoids piping your data through a US AI pipeline a second time.

Are there volume discounts like AssemblyAI Enterprise?

Yes. Above ~100 hours/month we offer custom pricing. The Pro subscription (€22/month) is separate — it covers permanent storage and MCP access, also for small volumes.
